Reds' Baker expected to return to Cincinnati on Friday
Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker spent his second night in a Chicago-area hospital after undergoing tests for an irregular heartbeat.
GM Walt Jocketty visited Baker on Thursday morning. He reported that Baker felt good, but doctors wanted to keep him overnight for observation.
"We looked very good," said Jocketty after the Reds' 5-3 win over the Chicago Cubs. "He's in good spirits. I talked to him a little bit ago. He's happy the young guys came through."
Baker was scheduled to fly back to Cincinnati on Friday morning. He may or may not manage Friday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
"Probably not," Jocketty said. "We'll wait and see. He will be at the ballpark."
Bench coach Chris Speier filled in for Baker on Wednesday and Thursday. The Reds won Thursday 5-3 over the Cubs to clinch at least a playoff spot.
Speier says Baker will want to manage Friday.
"Knowing Dusty, yes, he will," Speier said. "But it will be doctor's orders as to what he'll be allowed to do or not to do. ... If it was Dusty's decision, he'd want to be managing."
