Swim ban at 2 Falls Lake beaches tied to bacteria
Tests showed bacteria levels higher than allowed by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards at Sandling Beach, Beaverdam and the Hollypoint boat ramp area.
Posted — UpdatedTwo popular beaches along the shores of Falls Lake are closed this weekend after tests revealed unsafe levels of bacteria in the water.
The state Division of Parks and Recreation closed the beach Friday after a weekly test showed bacteria levels higher than allowed by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards at Sandling Beach, Beaverdam and the Hollypoint boat ramp area.
Swimming will be prohibited in those areas until they observe back-to-back days where tests show bacteria has retreated to an acceptable level.
Other swimming areas of the lake remain open, and fishing, boating and other activities are permitted.
