Alle-Kiski Valley roundup: Knoch boys soccer shuts out Highlands

Knoch goalkeeper Stephen Grumski earned a shutout Thursday night, but his defense made sure he didn't have to exert much energy in the process.

Knoch did not allow a shot on goal against Highlands and blanked the Golden Rams, 5-0, in a Section 2-AA game in Harrison.

Knoch (3-1, 2-0) has won three straight. The Knights got goals from five different players.

Ben Andrews scored a goal and assisted on two others, Chris Matus had a goal and an assist, and Jon Michael Lambert, Val Panger and Nick Kadunce also scored.

Highlands fell to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in section play.

Deer Lakes 10, West Shamokin 0 — Class AA No. 5 Deer Lakes (3-1, 1-1) cruised to a Section 2 win over West Shamokin (0-2, 0-2).

Franklin Regional 3, Plum 2 (OT) — In Section 3-AAA, Jake Roberge scored the tying goal on a penalty kick with six seconds left in regulation and then redirected a header for the game-winner 3:33 into overtime for No. 5 Franklin Regional (2-0, 2-0).

Ryan Smith scored for Plum (2-2, 1-1).

Riverview 1, Jeannette 0 — Cole Wilson scored for Riverview (2-0) in a nonsection win over Jeannette (0-2). Wilson's early second-half goal was assisted by Christian Snyder. Riverview had 22 shots on goal.

Penn-Trafford 1, Kiski Area 0 — Pete O'Connor scored off an assist from Ben Long at the midway point of the first half for Penn-Trafford (1-0). Nicholas Biscelgia recorded three saves in goal for Kiski Area (1-2) in the nonsection loss.

Burrell 4, St. Joseph 1 — Burrell (2-1) made it back-to-back wins, downing the Spartans (0-3) in nonsection play.

Girls soccer

Knoch 4, Indiana 0 — Knoch goalkeeper Becca Stockart recorded her second shutout in consecutive nights as the Knights (2-1) downed Indiana (1-2) in nonsection play. Kaelyn Oskin netted three goals and Marley Gordon assisted on a goal for Knoch.

Girls volleyball

Kittanning 3, Indiana 1 — Kittanning (1-1, 1-1) handed Indiana (1-1, 1-1) its first Section 3-AA loss since 2011 as Casey Harkleroad had 11 kills.

Riverview 3, St. Joseph 2 — Alexa Patsey had 17 kills, and Taylor Killmeyer added 18 assists to pace Riverview (2-0, 2-0) to a Section 1-A win.

Freeport 3, Valley 0 — Jess Kelley recorded three aces, and three blocks, and Zoe Pawlak chipped in five aces and seven kills to help Freeport (2-0, 1-0) to a Section 4-AA win over Valley.

Knoch 3, Highlands 0 — Alley Kerkin had nine service aces and Taylor Lesseski added five service aces to help lead Knoch ( 2-0, 2-0) to a Section 4-AA win over Highlands.

Golf

Freeport 215, Leechburg 284 — At Lenape Heights Golf Course, Freeport junior Audrey Clawson shot an even-par 36 to lead the Yellowjackets (5-4, 5-2) to a Section 1-AA victory.
