A Cullman County man killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon has been identified as local pastor David Hollis.

Hollis, 54, of Cullman was recently named the pastor at Crossroads of Faith Church in Altoona, Al. a little more than a month ago.

James Butler, a deacon at Crossroads of Faith, said Hollis was a great man and will be deeply miss.

“He was fantastic, and a real man of faith in good standing,” he said. “Any problem you had, you could go to him and he’d sit down and talk to you and help work it out. He was a true man of God.”

Since his passing, friends and family have offered an outpouring of condolences in the form of dozens of Facebook comments on The Times story about the crash.

“Such a great witness for his Lord and Saviour ... Praying for this family,” Kathy Blackmon commented.

Sherry Motes added: “Such a nice guy ... he will be greatly missed. God bless the family!”

The wreck occurred at approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 278, about a mile west of Interstate 65.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash, 31-year-old Jacob Frezza of Cullman, was transported by ambulance to Cullman Regional Medical Center for leg injuries.

Cullman County Sheriff Mike Rainey said state troopers were still investigating what caused the accident, as well as the vehicles’ directions of travel and other factors.

The wreck shut down both lanes along a two-mile section of Highway 278 for two hours, as responders with the sheriff’s office, state troopers and the Bethsadia Volunteer Fire Department worked the accident.
