'Gangster Squad' Trailer With 'Dark Knight Rises' Included Theater Shooting Scene (Video)

'Gangster Squad' Trailer Pulled After 'Dark Knight Rises' Shooting (Update)

(Warning: Images and video may upset some readers.)

In a grim coincidence, a trailer for the upcoming film "Gangster Squad" shown before "The Dark Knight Rises" showed trenchcoated gunmen firing through a movie screen, into an audience.

The scene took on a sickening resonance with the mass killing at a Colorado midnight showing of "Dark Knight Rises" in which 12 people were killed and 38 injured.

Warner Bros. had no immediate word on whether the trailer had been pulled, or on whether the scene would remain in the film. Deadline's Nikki Finke posted a story saying the studio pulled the trailer after she complained, but a Warner's representative declined to comment on whether that was the case.

The trailer remained widely available online, and is posted below. The theater shooting comes at its climax: A film begins, and four trenchcoated men begin firing tommy guns from behind the screen. Their bullets shred the screen, and they step through it, still firing.

The noir drama, directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Emma Stone, is set for a Sept. 7 release.

Here's the video, which may, obviously, be unsettling to watch given the real-life shooting:
