The beautiful early-fall weather which brought sunshine and warm temperatures in recent weekends is going, going, gone – at least for the near future.

Rain and gusty winds ushered in the weekend and significantly colder weather is expected to remain until the middle of next week, according to the National Weather Service.

“It’s going to be rainy, cold and wet,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Mosteiko. “We had quite a few good weekends lately. You have to take the good with the bad.”

The rain is expected to hang around until the middle of next week as well, but there is no threat of significant accumulation and flooding or severe weather at this time.

A half-inch of rain was expected Friday with only one-tenth of an inch expected each day this weekend.

The rain will be coupled with temperatures expected to be in the high 40s to low 50s.

The weather is expected to be dry by mid-week, but there is a chance of rain next weekend, Mosteiko said.

Don’t write off the hope for more nice fall weather just yet, though.

“There’s a pretty high likelihood we’ll have a few more nice weekends,” Mosteiko said.

Until that time, however, below-average temperatures are expected until the end of next week.

Mosteiko said the cold front is being caused by a jet stream which is forcing cold air typically seen in Canada to the Great Lakes region.
