Each week on gameday, we'll take an inside look at Michigan State's opponent by gathering all the information and links you need to get to know the opposition.

This week, the Indiana Hoosiers.

THE FACTS
Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Enrollment: 42,133
Motto: Lux et Veritas (Light and Truth)
Nickname: Hoosiers
Mascot: Strangely, IU has no mascot. There was a bulldog in the early 1960s and a bison after that, but neither stuck.
Colors: Crimson and Cream
Home stadium: Memorial Stadium (Capacity 52,929 - FieldTurf)
Coach: Kevin Wilson (13-29 in fourth year at IU)
All-time record: 454-624-45
Ranking: Unranked, receiving no votes.
Postseason notables: The Hoosiers have been to just one Rose Bowl, losing to USC in 1968. With Lee Corso as head coach, IU beat undefeated BYU in the 1979 Holiday Bowl.
Record against MSU: Spartans lead 43-15-2
Last year: 5-7 (3-5)
Returning starters 18 (eight on offense, 10 on defense)
Of note: Only two teams in the FBS (UTSA and Central Michigan) returned more starters (19) than Indiana this season.
Heisman Trophy winners: 0
Notable alumni: Joe Buck (sportscaster); Sage Steele (ESPN); Dick Enberg (sportscaster); Jonathan Banks ("Mike Ehrmantrout" of Breaking Bad); Lee Majors (actor); Will Shortz (NYT crossword fame); John Chambers (CEO of Cisco Systems); Mark Cuban; Jamie Hyneman (co-host of "MythBusters"); Jared Fogle (you know, the Subway Jared).
Random fact: In 1976, in a game against Woody Hayes' Ohio State Buckeyes, Lee Corso called a timeout in the second quarter following an Indiana touchdown. The score gave the Hoosiers their first lead over OSU in 25 years, so Corso called the timeout just to pose with the team for a photo with the scoreboard (reading IU 7, OSU 6) in the background. He used it for a recruiting brochure the next year. The Buckeyes ended up winning 47-7.

MUST READS
• Yes, the term Hoosiers refers to natives or residents of the state of Indiana. But what does it mean and where does it come from? Turns out even Hooisers don't agree on one theory. And there are far more theories than you could ever imagine.

• What a strange deal this whole Indiana quarterback situation is. Two transfers after last year, then starter Nate Sudfeld gets hurt, now the question of who will start today against MSU is shrouded in mystery. It looks like it will be true freshman Zander Diamont.

• Speaking of Zander Diamont, remember this episode of Seinfeld? Yeah, that's his mom.

• Still speaking of Zander Diamont -- the freshman QB from LA -- he used to model.

• Is the problem with Indiana football right now a lack of talent or a lack of leadership? An IU beat writer tries to answer that question.
