A representative for Tom Hanks is denying a tabloid report that his son Chet Hanx has “gone missing.”
The cover of this week’s Star magazine has a picture of Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson with claims from unnamed sources that there has been a “desperate month-long search” for Hanx, a Northwestern University alumnus.
The story is “categorically not true. He is not missing,” Hanks rep Leslee Dart said in an email to the Tribune.
The once social media-prolific rapper, who was born Chester Hanks and has gone by the name Chet Haze, last posted to Facebook June 3 and to Twitter July 1.
In his last Instagram post, on July 23, Hanx wrote: “I’m not gonna be on Instagram for a while… Getting the (expletive) out of Dodge for a min… Gonna go get my mind right. I’ll be back!”
Hanx has admitted past troubles with substance abuse.
Hanx, 25, made headlines earlier this year when he defended his use of the N-word. He may be best known for “White and Purple,” his Northwestern anthem that went viral in 2011.
