Keurig Is Recalling 7.2 Million Machines Due to Risk of User Injury

If you use a single-cup coffeemaker made by Keurig, you may want to check the model. The appliance company has issued a massive recall on its Mini Plus Brewing System, citing the small machines as a burn hazard. "Hot liquid could escape from certain MINI Plus Brewing System units during use. Keurig has determined that this event is more likely to occur if the brewer is used to brew more than two cups in quick succession," the company states in its recall release, which is estimated to affect over seven million machines in the United States and Canada. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission cites close to 90 reported injuries related to the coffeemaker, while Health Canada has dealt with 17 additional instances.

Any Mini Plus machines with the model number K10 are part of this voluntary recall, which entitles owners to a free repair kit to resolve the issue. Keurig recommends that users avoid brewing more than two cups of coffee in a row, maintain a decent distance from the machine during use, and notify other users of the potential risk. If you're giving a Keurig to friends as a holiday gift, be sure to inform them of the recall and warnings! After all, nobody wants a burn for Christmas.
