Reward offered for return of urn carrying ashes of West Windsor man's late wife

WEST WINDSOR - Information that leads to the return of an urn containing the ashes of a township man's late wife could bring a reward up to $1,000, Crime Stoppers of Greater Trenton announced today.

The urn was stolen from a home on Hathaway Drive during a break-in there Feb. 20, police said. Investigators believe the thieves did not know what was in the box and took it thinking it contained valuables.

Police are asking for the public's help in returning the ashes and catching the culprits, who detectives say are also responsible for a similar burglary in another township home the same night. Prescription medicine and jewelry were also taken during the break-ins, according to police.

The rosewood box - about 8 inches by 8 inches and 10 inches high - was being used as the urn for the ashes. The box was inside a green felt bag with a draw string.

Police say the thieves can also return the urn themselves by leaving it undamaged at a neutral site, as long as they tell police where to pick up the remains.
