Clint Eastwood’s is perhaps the last name that would pop to mind when talking of a musical, but “Jersey Boys” is proof that this idea of him is probably wrong. The film comes out in June and has just received a first trailer which, as usual, you will find embedded below.

“Jersey Boys” is the story of four guys from Jersey, from “the wrong side of the track,” who get together to create a band for their unique sound. They were the Four Seasons with Frankie Valli, one of the most successful music groups in history so, naturally, their story is one worthy of being told on film.

Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice handled writing based on the Broadway musical, while Eastwood directs. From the trailer, you can tell that this will be an “Eastwood film” throughout even though it’s a musical: it’s got his fingerprints all over, from the camera angles to the use of bright colors in contrast with darker hues.

If there’s one thing Eastwood excels, that is the ability to bring back the glamor and the beauty of those times in a very convincing manner. He does occasionally stumble with the narrative or the character definition, but he never falters when it comes to recreating a world long gone.

John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Vincent Piazza, Michael Lomenda and Christopher Walken star. “Jersey Boys” comes out in June 2014. Do you plan on seeing it in theaters?
