Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy Headline World Golf Rankings After 2014 British Open

Rory McIlroy claimed his first Claret Jug after winning the 2014 British Open by two strokes over Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler on Sunday, shooting 17-under overall and a one-under 71 on Day 4. The 25-year-old phenom is now just one Masters win away from completing the career Grand Slam.

His future certainly looks bright, but his present is already gleaming. With the victory, McIlroy jumps up to the world's No. 2 ranking, just behind Adam Scott.

McIlroy jumped six spots after his third major victory, surpassing the likes of Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson and more. This was a well-deserved leap ahead for the British Open's champion, as he joined some elite company on Sunday, via ESPN Stats & Info:
While McIlroy earned headlines with his masterful wire-to-wire performance in this year's Open Championship, Scott maintained his No. 1 ranking after quietly posting a six-under 66 on Sunday to finish tied for fifth at 12-under par.

Sergio Garcia's second-place finish allowed him to move up from No. 9 to No. 5, though he still continues his search for his first major victory. Meanwhile, Jim Furyk's solid fourth-place showing propelled him into the top 10, leapfrogging Jordan Spieth.
With more prestigious tournaments such as the WGC-Bridgestone and PGA Championship remaining on the slate, expect to see some more significant changes before the end of the year.
As for McIlroy, expectations will be even higher moving forward. He has just one event missing from his Grand Slam showcase, and he's riding a huge wave of momentum following his brilliant display at Hoylake.
