Since Andrew Garfield has taken his spot as our friendly neighborhood wallcrawler, Tobey Maguire has moved on to more adult roles, like his turn in Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby (watch the trailer right here). Now he's landed another grown up role as Deadline reports Maguire has landed the final major role in Jason Reitman's (Up in the Air, Juno, Young Adult) next film Labor Day, which begins shooting this month. Maguire Joins a cast that already includes Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, J.K. Simmons and more. Reitman wrote the script himself, based on Joyce Maynard's book of the same name. Read on!
The story follows a 13-year old boy named Henry from New Hampshire who learns life lessons over a five-day Labor Day weekend. Reitman has been phenomenal at coming-of-age films, no matter what age his characters might be, so this sounds right up his alley. Maguire is actually playing the adult version of the boy and will also narrate the film. He's a fine addition to an already great cast, and with Reitman at the helm, it only sounds sweeter. At one time James Van Der Beek was attached to star, but it's not clear if he's still involved. Either way, I'm always looking forward to the next Reitman film.

Must be nice. SpiderMan 3 tainted all of that franchise for me.
