Baku. Mubariz Aslanov - APA. Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov has commented on President of Israel Reuven Rivlin’s speech.

Ibrahimov told APA that the remarks Reuven Rivlin made on the Khojaly genocide during his speech at the UN General Assembly is of great importance: “I think this is quite an important event for us, and the Azerbaijani media shouldn’t overlook it.”

The committee chairman said Azerbaijan has been pursuing consistent, systematic and purposeful policy for many years in order to deliver the Khojaly realities to the world community.

“A number of countries have recognized the Khojaly genocide. “Justice for Khojaly" campaign initiated by Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva produced very successful results. These all played an important role in informing the world community about the Khojaly tragedy. The remarks made by the president of a country that has an important place in world politics, abut the Khojaly tragedy from high tribune of the UN – influential international organization - are a great success, and it shows that Azerbaijan is a country powerful enough, and it manages to inform the world about the Khojaly tragedy and the Karabakh conflict,” he added.

Ibrahimov said that Azerbaijan has good relations with Israel, but Israeli president’s comments on the Khojaly tragedy indicate that the truth is overwhelming. “I think that the expressing of such views at the event dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day at the UN General Assembly is of particular importance.”
