WASHINGTON, D.C. — At least half of the Iowans who went to Washington, D.C. to protest deportation have been arrested.

It’s what the group from Las Americas United Methodist Church in Des Moines thought would happen.

A spokesperson says officers arrested six of the 12 people at the White House Thursday. The Iowans were part of a bigger protest including about 100 people.

The participants wanted to commit civil disobedience to make a statement to the president to stop deportation.

The Iowans involved are expected to begin their return trip Friday.
