VALLEY ROUNDUP: Shadow Hills dominates DHS in the pool

Both the Shadow Hills swim teams took easy victories over Desert Hot Springs Wednesday evening on the road, led by dominating performances of multi-event winners on both teams.

The boys team (7-1) took first place in all but one event while defeating DHS 132-32, and Josh Purificacion and Eduardo Arce each took two individual victories. Purificacion won the 200 meter IM and the 100 breast stroke, and Arce took the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle. Both also were on the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams.

On the girls side, the Knights (6-2) took top honors in each event while beating DHS 135-26, led by Ramsie Haskell and Emilia Brady who each took two individual events. Haskell won the 200 freestyle and the 50 freestyle, and Brady won the 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle. Both also swam on the victorious 200 medley relay team as well.

Tennis

Rancho Mirage 13, Shadow Hills 5: The Rattlers continued their hot streak Wednesday, winning the team’s ninth match in a row.Umrith Bajaj, Ismael Cuevas and Daniel Whelan each swept their three singles sets, while the doubles teams of Marco Giron and Javier Campos, and Juan Felix and Alex Arias who two sets each.

Rancho Mirage holding fundraiser: The first-annual Rattler Mixed Doubles Tiebreaker Tennis Classic will be held May 2 at the Rancho Mirage High School tennis courts. Teams can register for $65, and they will receive a logo hat, along with a chance at prizes donated by local restaurants and country clubs for winners and runners up in each of the four divisions.

Baseball

Shadow Hills 4, Yucca Valley 1: Alex Lopez gave up just one hit on the mound as Shadow Hills pulled out another win to stay undefeated in De Anza League play with a 6-0 record.

Lopez pitched a complete game of seven innings, striking out six batters while walking three. At the plate, Nathan Tiaga led the Knights going 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Sean Roby added two RBIs.

Shadow Hills (11-9) takes the diamond next against Twentynine Palms Friday at 5 p.m.

Boys golf

Shadow Hills takes two wins in two days: After beating De Anza League foe Big Bear 225-276 Tuesday at Hesperia National, the Knights defeated Desert Christian at Bermuda Dunes Country Club 239-263, led by an even par 36 from Elijah Martinez. Cameron Dunn followed with a 38. Both players improved by six shots on the day before while they carded their top rounds of the season.

After both victories, Shadow Hills (10-4, 9-1 in De Anza) will travel to Desert Dunes Country Club to play Desert Hot Springs Thursday.
