Photo of Chris Cuomo, CNN staffers mocking Ebola, hazmat suits sparks backlash

CNN drew some ire on social media this week after a producer tweeted a photo showing anchors apparently making a joke of the Ebola outbreak.

The photo shows New Day anchors Chris Cuomo, Michaela Pereira and Alisyn Camerota pretending to be scared while two men wearing mock hazmat gear stand over them. It was originally shared by senior producer John Griffin on Thursday morning, but taken down about an hour later.

Inside Cable News was able to take a screenshot of the image before it was deleted:

Several Twitter users didn't think it was a very funny joke, and criticized CNN for making light of the deadly disease.

Mediaite reported that Griffin took the photo, but was quickly asked to take it down by CNN brass.

Instances of Ebola related humor haven't gone over so well since the disease reached the United States. Last week, a man who said "I have Ebola. You're all screwed" as a "joke" on a flight was removed by a full hazmat team while other passengers were forced to wait for hours while he was examined.

The distinctive hazmat suits have been seen on flights, at hospitals and other locations where Ebola concerns have arisen in the U.S. According to The Daily Mail, authorities have been making efforts to control the sense of panic that the disease has begun to inspire.

In New York City, firefighters are banned from using the word "Ebola" on their radios, because it could trigger citywide panic, the Mail reported.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo also said Thursday that New York is ready to tackle Ebola if it ever arrives in the state.
