TOTTON: Meat Loaf won’t be gracing Red Lion’s stage but his songs and his show will and...

. . .two out of three ain’t bad!

A PUB landlady is giving fans left disappointed by US rock star Meat Loaf’s controversial Broadlands gig the chance to see his music performed again.

Jacqui Clapp was one of many audience members furious at the larger-than-life rocker’s summer performance, which was criticised for being out of tune and lacklustre.

But she’s now offering fans a lifeline by staging a show at her pub, the Red Lion in Totton, featuring the country’s top Meat Loaf impersonator.

What’s more, anyone who still has their Broadlands ticket stub can exchange it for a free ticket to the gig, which Jacqui is promising will be “the show of the year”.

The 42-year-old has hired Dean Torkington, whose show To Hell and Back – a Tribute to Meat Loaf, has wowed crowds around the country and received critical acclaim. Jacqui said: “I’m a lifelong fan of Meat Loaf and this whole year I was looking forward to seeing him play at Broadlands.

“As far as I was concerned it was going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“Getting the chance to see him perform was everything to me, but I just felt let down.

“Now Dean is coming and I’m so excited – it’s going to be awesome.

“Dean is the best tribute out there and he sounds just like a young Meat Loaf.

“I will be there with everyone else singing away, enjoying the show of the year.”

Jacqui hit the headlines following Meat Loaf’s Romsey appearance when she challenged him to put on a show for his fans to apologise.

Two days later, following pressure from the Daily Echo, the 60-year-old Texan issued an apology saying he was “extremely upset” and “extremely sorry” for the show, for which he said he took the blame.

Jacqui added: “We wanted the main man, the songs and the show. Meat Loaf is not going to come but thanks to Dean, we will have the songs and the show. Two out of three ain’t bad!”

Only 200 tickets will be dealt out for the show next Friday, on a first-come first-served basis, and will cost £5 for those without a Broadlands ticket stub.
