usinessman-cum-politician Hashim Djojohadikusumo resigned on Wednesday from his position as head of supervision at Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta.
Hashim, who is the younger brother of Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto, had served as Ragunan Zoo head of supervision since June 2013.
He claimed to have made significant achievements but said he decided to step down to focus on his business and politics. 'For example, the animals at the zoo now get one day off [per week] on Mondays to rest and to ensure their welfare,' Hashim said after handing his resignation letter to Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama at City Hall on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Ahok said he regretted Hashim's resignation although the latter had put forward the name of a candidate to take over his job at the zoo.
'I thank Pak Hashim for his good work over the last year. He has recommended to me a veterinarian deemed suitable to replace him. We will review the recommendation,' he said.
The two were previously involved in a disagreement when Ahok made a quick decision to quit Gerindra without any consultation with Hashim, who gave political support to Ahok's nomination as running mate for Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo in the 2012 gubernatorial race. (***)
