Upcoming Olive Films Releases
Posted December 16, 2014 05:58 PM by
Independent U.S. distributors Olive Films have revealed that they will add six new titles to their BLu-ray catalog in February: Billy Wilder's Kiss Me, Stupid, Carl Gottlieb's Caveman, Just Jaeckin's Lady Chatterley's Lover, Roger Corman's The Wild Angels, Ernest Thompson's 1969 (1988), and Richard Rush's Psych-Out.
When the world-renowned singer "Dino" (Martin in a hilarious self-parody) passes through Climax, Nevada, he doesn't count on meeting two would-be songwriters with a plan to trap him there and serenade him with their songs. But then again, they weren't counting on Dino's insatiable appetite... for wine and women! And when one of the men learns that his own wife was once president of Dino's fan club, he hires a replacement wife (Kim Novak) to help lure the carousing star into a song-buying mood! Starring Dean Martin, Kim Novak, Ray Walston, Felicia Farr, and Cliff Osmond. STREET DATE: FEBRUARY 17, 2015.
Prehistoric life is tough for poor, lovesick Atouk (Starr). As the smallest and weakest caveman of his tribe, he is unable to win the heart of the beautiful Lana (Bach) and is banished from the cave by Lana's mate, Tonda (NFL star John Matusak), the hulking chief of the tribe. Forced to wander the ancient wilderness, Atouk meets a variety of unlikely allies who, after hearing his story, want to help him get back with his clan. And before Atouk knows it, he's the chief of his own tribe... of misfits! Leading this rag-tag band of oddballs into battle, Atouk has one mission in mind: to knock Tonda off his throne and carry Lana away... by her hair! Starring Ringo Starr, Dennis Quaid, Shelley Long, Barbara Bach, and Jack Gilford. STREET DATE: FEBRUARY 17, 2015.
Paralyzed from the waist down due to a war injury, Sir Clifford Chatterley (Shane Briant) urges his wife, Constance (Kristel), to take a lover to satisfy her physical needs. But when she begins an intense affair with a man of shockingly lower class - the virile and rugged gamekeeper Mellors (Nicholas Clay) - the unexpected stirring of passions will rock not only the Chatterleys' marriage, but all of society as well. Starring Sylvia Kristel, Shane Briant, and Nicholas Clay. STREET DATE: FEBRUARY 17, 2015.
Hell-bent on wreaking havoc, a motorcycle psycho-biker named Heavenly Blues (Fonda) rounds up his rebellious crew and takes off to the desert to recover a stolen chopper. There, a run-in with the cops leaves gang member Loser (Dern) deader than road kill - but it's when his funeral turns into a drunk-fest that this biker movie really shifts into high-gear...and hits the road with action and revenge! Starring Peter Fonda, Nancy Sinatra, Bruce Dern, Diane Ladd, and Norman Alden. STREET DATE: FEBRUARY 17, 2015.
Tune in. Turn on. Psych Out! Take the ultimate in psychedelic trips with Susan Strasberg, Dean Stockwell, Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern! When a deaf runaway (Strasberg) visits swinging San Francisco in search of her brother, she teams with the aptly named Stoney (Nicholson) and his out-of-sight hippie band Mumblin' Jim. But the more she succumbs to that music-and danger-filled Flower Power scene-the more she realizes that reality is a rotten place to be! Starring Susan Strasberg, Dean Stockwell, Jack Nicholson, Henry Jaglom, and Adam Roarke. STREET DATE: FEBRUARY 17, 2015.
Scott and Ralph (Sutherland and Downey), two small-town class-of-'67 high school graduates, venture off to college to sow some wild oats - and stay one step ahead of the draft board. But when Ralph is expelled from school, he suddenly becomes a prime candidate for serving in his country's armed forces. And when the lifelong friends take drastic - and illegal - measures to ensure Ralph's freedom, they trigger a chain of events that will forever change their friendship, their lives... and how a town thinks of war. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Kiefer Sutherland, Bruce Dern, Mariette Hartley, Winona Ryder, and Joanna Cassidy. STREET DATE: FEBRUARY 17, 2015.
Well, I'm happy that at least you're getting Kiss Me, Stupid, minor Billy Wilder to be sure but doing the best he could with Ray Walston in Peter Sellers' role (who'd had the first of his heart attacks). But what I pine for is "One, Two, Three" made by Wilder three years earlier, with the most jaw-dropping performance by a coming-out-of-retirement James Cagney, and some still remarkably pertinent and brutal political satire. Fingers crossed.
Does anybody know if Olive releases are generally region-locked or not? The extant reviews here are non-committal ("B and C untested", etc etc)
1969 for me. Can't resist me some young Winona. I think i saw some of Wild Angels on TV a few years ago, if it's the one I'm thinking of, it turned pretty rancid at one point. Speaks volumes about the counter-culture of the time. They raped some dead guy's widow at his drug induced funeral in the church, and proceeded to trash the joint. Pretty disgusting stuff.
"Speaks volumes about the counter-culture of the time". Wow, Tom. You obviously weren't there. I was. Everyone I knew was friendly and respectful of their fellow bipeds. Raping widows in churches wasn't exactly part of the hippie manifesto, dude. The scene says more about the makers of the film that the so-called counter culture. Anyway I might be interested in a bit of the old zeitgeist with Psych-Out. Cries and Whispers is good, but even it goes over the top in a certain scene. Peace!

He wasn't "coming out of retirement" at that point. In fact, the story goes that it was working on this film that made him decide to retire. He did come out of retirement to do a film, but that was RAGTIME, 20 years after this one.
Wow, I think 4 out of 6 Olives are must buys for me! Lady Chatterly, Psych-Out (maybe The Trip will be next?), Wild Angels, and probably Caveman. Nothing against Twilight Time, but my wallet is grateful Olive got these. This is a much more Cult heavy list than usual.
Courtesy of (moslty) MGM HD again... May very well pick up Psych-Out. Wild Angels, nope, it sucked pretty hard. Somehow think I've not managed to watch Kiss Me, Stupid yet, so probably will get that to keep up with my Kim Novak collection. 1969 was okay, not sure one way or the other, leaning towards not. Forget about Caveman. No particular desire to own Lady Chatterley either.
I'm with noirjunkie on "Beware, My Lovely" and "No Man of Her Own"? Come on already.
