Nobel laureate to give speech at Kashmir University today

“He will deliver a lecture at a symposium in Kashmir University,” an official from the organising committee said.

Nobel laureate Tim Hunt will deliver a lecture to Kashmiri students at Kashmir University Wednesday. Hunt, a British national, who was awarded the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine, is in the Valley to attend the Young Investigators Meet, a science outreach initiative in India. “He will deliver a lecture at a symposium in Kashmir University,” an official from the organising committee said.

“After that he will deliver an inspirational lecture to a select group of students from across schools in the Valley”. This will be the first time a Nobel laureate will deliver a lecture at Kashmir University. The meet that draws scholars from across the world is underway at Gulmarg health resort. This year, more than 15 Biologists, 40 young scientists and 40 post-doctorate fellows are participating in the mentoring programme.

Fifteen directors of various Indian institutes and five representatives of funding agencies will also take part in the meet that is organised annually by the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore. J&K Governor N N Vohra is expected to attended. ENS
