ADRIAN, MI - The around 200 displaced residents of the Adrian senior living high rise deemed unsafe by engineers need several items through donation.

These items, which include food, gas station gift cards, plastic utensils and pet food, may be donated to Share the Warmth, 427 W. Maumee St. in Adrian, Adrian city officials said.

Lenawee County and the city have announced states of emergency to provide the residents emergency services after engineers deemed the Riverview Terraces building “unsafe” due to multiple instances of the walls being separated from the floor, city officials said.

The city provided a list of items that will be accepted as donations. They include:

  • Gift cards to restaurants and gas stations in Adrian
  • Food and drinks, including pudding cups, applesauce, jello, crackers, water, microwavable items such as pasta and rice and tuna or chicken packets
  • Paper bowls and cups, as well as plastic utensils
  • Pet items, such as dry and wet food for cats and dogs, bird food, cat litter and litter boxes

Additionally, people can make monetary donations to Lenawee Community Foundation. The donations may be made directly to the Lenawee Community Foundation by check or online at lenaweecommunityfoundation.com. All donations should be labeled with the special designation of “housing crisis.”

City officials continue to address the structural issues in the building, according to the release. This includes hiring a specialized engineering firm to analyze the situation, officials said.

Without repairs to the structural issues, residents will not reoccupy the building, officials said. The timeline for repairs are “a number of months, if not longer,” officials said.

The City of Adrian Emergency Operations Center continues to offer assistance to residents through collaboration with local agencies. Residents needing assistance may call 517-264-6360.

College Avenue and the adjacent sidewalk are closed from George to Church streets until further notice, officials said, adding that people should avoid the Riverview Terrace property for safety reasons.
