Picture the scene if you will. It's Christmas Eve. The kids are going crazy, running around, watching the skies. You've just poured yourself another brandy and, oh look, One Chance is just about to start on BBC1. You know, the Paul Potts movie with that fella from Gavin & Stacey in it.

It's going to happen. The movie - which hits cinemas in the UK on Friday (October 18, 2013) - is likely to become one of the festive feel-good movies that all the family can sit down and enjoy.

It stars James Corden as Potts, a bullied shop assistant by day and amateur opera singer by night. UK audiences will be familiar with the story. Potts became an instant singing phenomenon after appearing on Simon Cowell's ITV show Britain's Got Talent.

Potts defeated the bookies co-favorite Conie Talbot to win the £100,000 prize and performed at the Royal Variety Performance on December 3, 2007 in front of Queen Elizabeth II. His version of Nessun Dorma from the show has over 111 million views on YouTube. His debut album One Chance was certified gold on its first week of sales and has since sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide.

The new movie, which also stars Julie Walters and MacKenzie Crook, has received solid reviews ahead of its release.

"A lot of the film, especially the courtship of Potts and his Julz, is touching and funny. It works," said David Sexton of This Is London.

"An utterly formulaic but sweet movie that does what a crowd-pleaser is meant to do," wrote David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter.

"One Chance avoids some of the pitfalls of the genre by having a funny if calculable script, a great supporting cast, and a very strong and engaging lead in Corden," wrote Digital Spy.

Watch the One Chance trailer:

"A thin but perfectly pleasant biopic, One Chance will charm audiences in need of some cinematic comfort," said We Got This Covered.

So there you have it. It's not going to win awards, but One Chance will be fine to enjoy with a little mince pie.

The movie is executively produced by Hollywood moguls Bob and Harvey Weinstein.
