Recruiting: Michael Bowman commits to South Carolina; Kyran Bowman commits to UNC

The Gamecocks picked up a commitment from a three-star wide receiver on Thursday morning.

Three-star wide receiver Michael Bowman announced his commitment to South Carolina on Thursday morning during a ceremony at Havelock (N.C.) High School. Michael's younger brother Kyran, a class of 2016 prospect, committed to North Carolina.

The elder Bowman chose the Gamecocks over offers from N.C. State, Tennessee, Penn State, North Carolina, East Carolina, and Georgia Tech. The 6'0, 195-pound wide receiver is the 45th-ranked wide receiver and the No. 361 overall player in the 2015 class, according to the 247Sports Composite index. South Carolina was the first to offer Bowman in August of 2013, and he subsequently camped with the Gamecocks in July and made a pair of unofficial visits in November.

The younger Bowman, who is almost two full years removed from the date on which he will sign his National Letter of Intent, has yet to be evaluated by any of the major recruiting services. Less than a month ago, Kyran named North Carolina as his leader, so it was no surprise that he decided to make his pledge to the Tar Heels on Thursday morning.

Given Kyran's connection to his brother and the distance between now and the conclusion of the 2016 recruiting cycle, it's not inconceivable that the rising high school junior might change his mind, but as of right now, the 6'1, 175-pound wide receiver appears to be solid to UNC. However, it appears as though North Carolina's tradition of success on the basketball court and the possibility of Bowman earning a chance to suit up on the hardwood for the Tar Heels played a big role in his decision.

Michael Bowman becomes South Carolina's fourth commitment in the 2015 class and joins Dexter Neal as the second wide receiver prospect to commit to the Gamecocks in this recruiting cycle. Bowman's commitment elevates USC six spots from No. 25 to No. 19, according to the 247Sports Composited recruiting ranking. He also joins a pipeline from Havelock High School that dates back to Chris Culliver and runs through current Gamecock Pharoh Cooper.
