Togo striker looking forward to returning to training.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Emmanuel Adebayor has reassured fans that he is recovering well after being diagnosed with mild bout of malaria.

The 30-year-old was admitted to hospital on Saturday and he will miss Tottenham’s pre-season tour of North America.

However, he is likely to return to training later this month and he should be fully fit for the start of the Premier League campaign on August 16.

Adebayor was Tottenham’s leading scorer last term with 11 goals. He only played 21 league games, having fallen out of favour under Andre Villas-Boas before being brought back into the first team picture by Tim Sherwood in December.

He also provided four top-flight assists last season.

Adebayor uploaded the below picture to Instagram on Wednesday afternoon, along with the message: “Hey guys, thanks for all your good wishes. Getting better now and looking forward to going back to training soon and preparing for the new season”.

Tottenham begin their pre-season fixtures with a game against Seattle Sounders on Sunday. They then face Jermain Defoe’s Toronto FC, before ending their tour of North America by taking on Chicago Fire.

Spurs will play Celtic in Helsinki on August 2, before hosting Schalke 04 at White Hart Lane a week later.
