BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana lost Noah Vonleh to the NBA draft Sunday. Three more Hoosiers followed him out of the program Monday as transfers.

Forwards Jeremy Hollowell and Austin Etherington, and walk-on guard Jonny Marlin, all plan to transfer. IU announced that Hollowell and Etherington will transfer and Marlin's father confirmed his son is also seeking to transfer to a non-Division I program.

Hollowell, who picked Indiana over Purdue and Ohio State, appeared in 62 games in two seasons in Bloomington. He started 15 this past season, averaging 5.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

"Jeremy has indicated to us that he would like to transfer to pursue another college opportunity," Crean said in a press release. "We hope he realizes his full potential and we believe we did everything over the last two years to help make that happen."

In the release, Hollowell said his decision was motivated by a desire for "a fresh start."

"Things don't always go as planned," Hollowell said in the release. "I want to thank Coach Crean for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play at IU. He has taught me a lot and has always wanted the best for me."

Indiana's first commitment in the 2009 class, Etherington played a pivotal role in helping Indiana assemble strong 2011 and 2012 recruiting classes. In addition to providing an in-state presence himself, he worked tirelessly to recruit good friends Cody Zeller and Yogi Ferrell to the program as well.

Etherington missed most of the 2012-13 season with a fractured kneecap. He recovered this past season to appear in 30 games, starting six. He averaged 10.6 minutes per game last season.

According to the release, Etherington plans to graduate from Indiana in May and seek a one-time graduate transfer exception, the same rule that allowed Evan Gordon to transfer to IU last spring. In the release, Crean said Etherington would search for a program in which he could have "a larger role."

"After talking with my family, I have decided to move forward with the next chapter in my life." Etherington said in the release. "After graduating in May, I will pursue other options for my remaining two years of eligibility."

Marlin, who transferred to Indiana from IPFW two seasons ago, walks away from the program after sporadically cracking the rotation this season.

The 5-10 redshirt sophomore appeared in 18 games, averaging 2.4 minutes per game. He was not on scholarship.

Combined with Luke Fischer's midseason transfer, and accounting for the three signees the program already has coming in, IU now has three open scholarships for next season.

The Hoosiers are actively recruiting forwards in 2014, including Chicago-area prospect Josh Cunningham, and Detroit-area forward Yante Maten. They are also involved with former Temple forward and grad transfer Anthony Lee.
