Lockwood takes command of SRVC with win over Miller

Ben Schnelle's 5-yard touchdown run and Ethan Bates' two-point conversion may not have seemed overly important in the second quarter, but it was everything for the Lockwood Tigers on Friday night.

The Tigers tightened their grip on the Spring River Valley Conference lead, doing so only after thwarting the Miller Cardinals 27-21 before a large crowd at Lockwood High School's field.

"It was a great atmosphere," Lockwood coach Clay Lasater said. "I felt like our offensive line played well early and our defense played well when our backs were to the wall. Pretty much, it was a team effort."

Lockwood (8-0, 6-0) wins the conference with a victory over Jasper next Friday. Otherwise, Lockwood, Jasper and Miller finish in a three-way tie.

Lockwood led 27-7 at halftime on the strength of Kyle Bolden's 3-yard touchdown run and Bates' 2-yard and 1-yard TD runs. Miller's Trey Hill scored on an 80-yard kickoff return in a wild first quarter.

Miller scored twice in the third quarter on a Jordan Jack 8-yard pass and Jack 10-yard run. However, Lockwood's defense grabbed two interceptions that all but sealed the win.

Rolla 49, Hillcrest 41

Hillcrest made a late charge on the road but ran out of time. Rolla running back Andy Satulla rushed for 392 yards and three touchdowns on 41 carries.

"(Satulla) is the perfect combo of being a physical runner, and he's got breakaway speed when he gets into the open field," Rolla coach Willie Howard said.

Rolla led 27-21 at halftime and held Hillcrest at bay through the second half.

Waynesville 49, Glendale 16

Glendale's prolific offense, which scored 72 points last week and saw quarterback Alex Austin throw 82 passes in a game last month, couldn't get on track in a loss at Waynesville. Waynesville led 16-0 after the first quarter and 35-8 at halftime.

"They had a really good defense. Very quick," Glendale coach Mike Mauk said. "We just ran into a little inconsistency on offense."

"It was a fun game for us," Howard said. "We kind of manipulated the game and ran the clock and were able to score when we needed to."

Camdenton 44, Joplin 42

Senior Josh Martin set Camdenton's single-game and single-season rushing records with a monstrous performance against Joplin, but left in the third quarter because of an ankle injury, coach Jeff Shore said.

Camdenton got outscored 28-13 in the second half, but recovered Joplin's onside kick in the final minute to survive and win.

Martin rushed 38 times for 330 yards and three touchdowns. He has 256 carries for 1,845 yards and 20 touchdowns, a school record for yardage in only eight games. Previous record-holder J.W. Sweat rushed for 1,785 yards in 14 games in 1996. The 330 yards in a single game broke a record Martin held from earlier in the year.

Joplin's Adam Norsworthy gained 161 yards on 15 carries. Skyler Duley had four receptions for 128 yards, six rushes for 76 yards, and scored four touchdowns.

Webb City 38, Ozark 7

Tyler Davison's 63-yard run and Keaton Burroughs' 34-yard run built an early 17-0 advantage for Webb City, which then returned a blocked punt 35 yards for a touchdown.

Webb City improved to 8-0, 6-0 in the Central Ozark Conference Large Division while Ozark fell to 3-5, 1-5.
