HGTV stars Tarek El Moussa and Christina El Moussa are expanding their family.

Its been two years since Tarek was left fighting for his life after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in June 2013. Now the "Flip or Flop" host has another reason to celebrate, after announcing that he and his wife/co-star are expecting their second child together.

And it's a boy!

The 33-year-old reality star and his wife also made the announcement on Instagram Monday, writing, "SO excited to announce Taylor is going to be a big sister!!!!! Our Baby BOY is due in August! #20Weeks."

"We found out Tarek had cancer, and we asked the doctor if that would affect our chances of having a child," Christina told People. "They said that if you go through radiation, which Tarek had too, then you should not get pregnant from that sperm from six months to a year. So, right away, we did sperm banking and [tried] IVF."

People reported that the couple has been trying to conceive their second child for about a year. However, after two failed IVF attempts and a miscarriage at eight weeks, Christina told People that she decided to switch doctors and get a second opinion. Doctors put Christina on a strict regimen planned over Christmas break, which included having to avoid picking up her 3-year-old daughter Taylor to play.

"I had to be super strict," Christina said. "I had to do one full week in bed. For 13 weeks after that, I couldn't go for a walk and couldn't lift anything over a gallon of milk. We planned it during Christmas break so I wasn't working. We did everything we could to make sure this one worked."

Christina, who is now 20 weeks pregnant, said her daughter completely understood her condition and is excited because she "really wanted a sibling."

"She talks to him in my tummy all the time," Christina said of daughter's reaction about becoming a big sister. "She'll say, 'I love you baby brother, am I being a nice big sister today? I'm not gonna change your poopy diaper!' "

Tarek is also excited about having a son, telling People, "I'm going to raise him as a good man. I'm going to make him a superior athlete, make sure he gets good grades and hopefully plays college baseball. And he's going to run the family business one day. he's not going to go off on his own. I'm just kidding, it's exciting to have a son and a daughter. The second he gets old enough, I'm going to step back from work and focus on raising them."

Season 3 of "Flip or Flop" premieres Tuesday at 9 p.m. EDT on HGTV.
