HOLLAND – A Barry County toddler died Wednesday when he was struck by farm equipment operated by his father.

Michigan State Police say the incident happened about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home near M-66 and Lacey Road in Assyria Township. Police say the child was struck by a small piece of farm machinery called a skid-steer while the father was performing yard work.

The state police said the incident appears to be an accident, but an investigation is ongoing.

Troopers were assisted by LifeCare from Battle Creek and the Johnstown Township Fire Department.
