FLINT, MI -- Former Grand Funk Railroad front man Mark Farner is coming soon to newsstands, but don't look for him on the cover of Rolling Stone or Guitar Word.

Prepper & Shooter Magazine, a publication aimed at Second Amendment activists and survivalists, said in a news release that Farner will be featured on the cover of its next issue.

The magazine cover photo shows Farner holding both an electric guitar and an assault rifle.

The new issue is set to hit newsstands in mid-October.

Earlier this year, the editor in chief of Prepper & Shooter called "Don't Let 'Em Take Your Gun," a song written by Farner and performed by the Flint-based Grand Funk, the "most pro-Second Amendment song ever."

Farner told MLive-The Flint Journal at the time that he didn't mind having his song used as an anthem for the gun-rights movement.

"There's no other way for me to protect my family except that gun," Farner said at the time. "The world is a crazy place. Look what happened to poor John Lennon. There's too many looney-tunes out there."

The Prepper & Shooter news release says an interview with Farner is in the new edition, and he discusses subjects including "introducing Frank Zappa to firearms and the NRA,  a few of his choices in firearms, his lifelong preparedness interests, and some of his political opinions."

Prepper & Shooter is a quarterly publication is available on newsstands and from the publisher.
