Bourne series producer Frank Marshall has insisted that a new film starring Jeremy Renner is still "moving forward".

His comments follow reports that Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are in talks to reunite for a third movie together.

Renner replaced Damon in the most recent Bourne film The Bourne Legacy, and is due to return in an as-yet-untitled follow-up.

However, it has been suggested that Renner's second film may be put on the back burner if Damon and Greengrass do return to the franchise.

Marshall told The Hollywood Reporter: "That movie is moving forward. It's still in development. We're working to get a script as soon as possible."

He added that the strategy will be to proceed with both projects simultaneously if Damon and Greengrass sign new deals.

Marshall had previously admitted that his dream for the next Bourne film was to "see Matt and Jeremy team up".

The next Bourne film is scheduled for release on July 15, 2016.
