MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A runoff will be needed July 15 to decide the Republican nomination for secretary state. With 83 percent of the precincts reporting Tuesday night, state Rep. John Merrill of Tuscaloosa polled 40 percent of the vote and former Montgomery County Probate Judge Reese McKinney had 38 percent. Crenshaw County Probate Judge Jim Perdue finished third with 22 percent. The Republican nominee will face Democrat Lula Albert-Kaigler in the general election Nov. 4.
