Working with local sponsors and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, NTC continues its tradition of purchasing and collecting new toys for the Tampa Bay Area's underprivileged children and families.

(PRWEB) January 26, 2015

During the recent holiday season, employees of Nationwide Title Clearing, Inc. (NTC), a leading research and document processing provider for the mortgage and financial industry, again purchased, collected and helped to distribute new toys in the annual Toys for Tots campaign. While NTC's clients in the real estate industry are located across the country, NTC officials have deemed it a part of the company's culture to not only acknowledge but to also demonstrate its support for the Tampa Bay Area.

About 30 NTC employees volunteered to help with the Toys for Tots program, which provides toys at the holidays for financially challenged children and families. Toy collection began at NTC's Palm Harbor headquarters on December 1 and ended on December 16. Local donations for the program were reportedly down slightly from the preceding year, possibly due to rising toy prices.1 Partly as a response, NTC decided to focus its purchases on popular items that are harder for parents to provide. The company contributed nearly 200 toys, many of them brought in by staff members. NTC also contributed over $1,000 in cash for toy purchases, which funded a shopping spree at Toys R Us.

Toys for Tots began in Los Angeles in 1947, when retired Marine Major Bill Hendricks was inspired by his wife, Diane, who wanted to donate a handmade Raggedy Ann doll to a needy child but could find no organization through which she could make the donation. At her suggestion, Hendricks gathered a group of local Marine reservists, who coordinated the collection of some 5,000 toys from bins placed outside Warner Brothers movie theaters. Toys for Tots was launched as a nationwide campaign in 1948, and has been bringing holiday gifts to underprivileged children ever since. Over the years, the program, now managed by the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, has collected and distributed nearly 500 million toys.2

In the Tampa Bay Area, distribution of toys took place on December 19 and 20 in Clearwater at Bright House Field, the spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies. The major gift for each child was either a large toy or a bike; bikes were very popular, and nearly 800 were given away, along with helmets. Each child was also given a puzzle, a game, a craft, a stocking stuffer, a ball and a book.

Tammy Judd, NTC's Volunteer of the Year, took part in the toy distribution at Bright House Field. “The service provided by Toys for Tots fills a large void for families that are struggling, and everyone expressed their gratitude for the help,” said Judd. Her sentiments were echoed by NTC CEO John Hillman, who added, “Most of our employees are residents of Pinellas County, and we are proud to be a part of this community—it is a pleasure and a privilege to be able to do something for our less fortunate members.”
