Dann Florek has announced that he is leaving Law & Order: SVU.

The actor – who plays Captain Donald Cragen – has revealed on Twitter that he recently shot his final episode for the NBC police procedural series.

"Friday was the last day 4 Cragen/Florek. It was a sweet send off! But he'll live on in syndication land 4 evah!" Florek tweeted earlier this week.

Law & Order: SVU showrunner Warren Leight also paid tribute to Florek by sharing a picture from his last day of filming.

Leight wrote: "Saluting the Captain at the close of his 401st episode -- all respect to @dannflorek"

Florek originated the role of Captain Donald Cragen in Law & Order in 1990, and then moved to the SVU spinoff in 1999.

His departure comes just two months after long-time Law & Order: SVU cast member Richard Belzer also left the series.
