The makers of The Expendables 2 are being sued for negligence by the family of a stuntman killed on set.

Kun Liu died during a stunt in Bulgaria in October 2011 while performing in a rubber boat on Ognyanovo dam, just outside the capital, Sofia.

The 26-year-old Chinese stunt worker did not survive after suffering wounds from a nearby explosion in the Sylvester Stallone vehicle.

According to court documents Beijing native Mr Liu's parents are suing for funeral and burial expenses  as well as 'the loss of society, love, comfort, attention, services and support' of their son.

They claim the filmmakers and Stahelski 'negligently and carelessly failed to provide adequate protection from hard to the participants of the stunts.'

The film stars action heroes Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and is due to be released in the United States in August.

Bulgarian authorities at the time reported another stuntman was seriously injured during the explosion that killed Kun Liu.

Meanwhile it has emerged that one of the film's stars was injured while filming his own stunt on another film.

According to TMZ, Arnold Schwarzenegger had his head split open while recording scenes for western Last Stand in New Mexico.

The 64-year-old refused the producers' offer to use a stunt double in more dangerous scenes because he thinks it's just more believable for him to do it himself.
