Members of the Writers Guild of America at Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind the TV show 'Sesame Street,' have struck a deal to avert a strike.

Writers employed by Sesame Workshop have set a new five-year contract with the production company behind 'Sesame Street,' averting a possible strike.

Sesame Street writers and Sesame Workshop reached a last-minute agreement on Friday to avoid a strike next week.

The new agreement expands the union's contractually-covered work at the nonprofit behind 'Sesame Street' in animation and new media.

"'S' truly is for Solidarity, We are glad to have a contract in place that allows Sesame to do what it does best - lead," the writers' negotiating committee said Friday

Sesame Street writers voted to strike if a new deal isn’t reached Friday. They plan to picket outside the company’s Upper West Side office next week.
