The Cemetery of the Evergreens is a non-denominational rural cemetery along the Cemetery Belt in Brooklyn and Queens, New York, colloquially called Evergreen Cemetery. It was incorporated in 1849, not long after the passage of New York's Rural Cemetery Act spurred development of cemeteries outside Manhattan.

Evergreen Cemetery purchased most of the 9-acre (36,000 m 2) potter's field from the county in 1964. It then prepared the newly recovered parcel for burials by covering it with 8 feet (2.4 m) of compacted soil. Only the crematorium was retained by the county. In 2007, the cremated remains of over 1700 unclaimed bodies were buried in the cemetery.

Evergreen Cemetery has an established permanent perpetual care fund so it will be as beautiful in the future as it is today. Evergreen Cemetery is a non-sectarian, non-profit organization which is managed by the Association’s board of trustees.
