Dies stimmt überein mit indo-europäisch tum (Erhebung), woraus dann tumba bzw. tumulus wurde. Tombelaine, der Name der kleinen, etwas nördlich gelegenen Insel, ist die Verkleinerungsform von Mont-Tombe.
