Major flight paths: San Francisco departures or arrivals

At 4,200 feet long, the Golden Gate Bridge was once the longest span in the world. That honor now goes to the Humber Bridge in England, which is 426 feet longer. Nevertheless, the Golden Gate’s length and “international orange” color make it easy to see from the air. So, if it’s orange, why is it called “golden”? The term “Golden Gate” actually refers to the Golden Gate Strait, which is the entrance to the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The Golden Gate Bridge connects San Francisco to Marin County, and has been traversed by more than 1.8 billion vehicles since it opened in 1937.
