Baby girls switched at birth are reunited with ...
Maria Lorena Gerbeno and Veronica Tejada only realised they had been given the wrong babies when they met by chance three weeks later Two mothers have been reunited with their daughters after being given the WRONG baby to take home from the hospital. Mums Maria Lorena Gerbeno and Veronica Tejada spent three weeks nursing the wrong child following the mix-up at the Sanatorio Argentino hospital in the Argentinian city of San Juan. Ms Gerbeno delivered a baby girl by Caesarian section on September 30 and was told she weighed 3.1kilos. She became suspicious when hospital staff handed over her new daughter, saying she weighed 3.8 kilos and was a breech birth. But it was only weeks later when she bumped into Veronica Tejada by chance at a post-natal clinic and the two of them got talking that they realised the birth weights of their two daughters matched up. Lawyer Ms Gerbano made a criminal complaint, prompting a judge to order DNA tests which confirmed that the women had been given the wrong babies. The two mums kept talking on the phone and swapped pictures online of their daughters, and the infants have now been returned to the correct parents. Mr Gerbano said despite her suspicions, she had looked after the baby she took home like she would her own daughter. She told news channel C5N: "I spent three weeks with a baby that was not my daughter but I gave her all my love and knew that the other mom would do the same." The hospital involved said it was collaborating with all the agencies involved in an investigation to "clarify" what happened.
