This 5-year-old Australian Shepherd from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region doesn't disappoint. For his next trick, this dog is going to make himself disappear! Early Tuesday morning, the pup wriggled out of his kennel and strolled through the building, then made his way out not one, but two doors, eventually ending up outside the building. "He let himself out of the kennel around midnight and let himself out of the building around 1 a.m," Gretchen Pressley with HSPPR said. "He had to actually push down the handle, push the door open and walk out in both cases," Pressley marveled. Pressley said when they went to check on Houdini Tuesday morning, they couldn't find him. That's when they thought to check the surveillance cameras. And for his final act, he saved his best for last! Houdini then walked to a neighborhood a mile away and found himself a forever home. Ashley Heister found Houdini wandering around the Lower Gold Camp Road area, and decided she wanted to adopt him. Houdini came back to the Humane Society hours later with Heister in tow. Ashley told the Humane Society when she saw Houdini, she just knew in her heart he belonged with her family. "We think he's a wonderful dog. I can't wait to welcome him into my family," she said. Now Houdini is just a day away from going home with his new family. The Humane Society is waiting one more day to make sure his original owners don't claim him. If no one comes for him, Houdini will go home with Ashley Saturday. "No dog has ever gotten through the door into the rest of the shelter. This is new for us," Pressley laughed.
