Mom has son wear 'Smoked Pot, Got Caught' sign ...
A 13-year-old boy learned a lesson in tough love after he was caught smoking pot with his friends.
Brandon Mathison was forced to wear a humiliating sign along a busy intersection in Beaufort, South Carolina, after he was busted by his mother, April Mathison, as a punishment.
The schoolboy spent his Friday night carrying the placard reading: ''Smoked pot, got caught! Don't I look cool? Not!'
Across his back was another sign, scrawled with the words: 'Learn from me, don't do drugs.'
'Time outs and taking things away just doesn't work any more. Sometimes a little public humility is what they need nowadays to get a point across,' April Mathison
'If this works for him and maybe saves one or two other students from thinking about picking this stuff up, then I feel like I've done my job as a parent.'
As part of the punishment, Brandon was forced to walk the busy street twice in one week, generating a lot of interest from the public.
'[I'm getting] all kinds of looks,' the teen said. 'There are people stopping to talk to me. Mostly they are yelling at me to stop.'
But, despite his embarrassment, Brandon said the punishment worked and he won't be smoking pot again. 'I got to change my life and stop,' he said.
April Mathison said she hopes the shaming sign will teach her son to stay away from drugs.
'I never in a million years pictured my 13 year old getting busted for marijuana,' she said. 'I'm always bragging about what a great kid he is. He is great in school. I just never pictured this.
'We as parents have to step it up, we have to protect our children and if this is what it takes, it's what I'm going to do.'
