Up, Up and Away is a 2000 Disney Channel original movie that tells the story of a family of superheroes, the Marshalls. Unlike many other superhero families, the Marshalls’ powers are derived from a unique plant in their hometown of Centerville. Each member has their own unique ability, such as super strength, invisibility, and the ability to stretch. However, the youngest member of the family, Scott Marshall (Michael J. Pagan), hasn’t developed any powers yet, despite being over 14 years old.

Scott is embarrassed by his lack of powers, and he has to use his intelligence to navigate through high school, whether it’s his keen photographic memory helping him remember facts for a test or his smarts helping him construct an elaborate lie to explain why he’s never demonstrated any powers. However, when his school’s science fair offers a grand prize scholarship to the winner, Scott sees an opportunity to change his situation. He decides to create a device that will activate his powers and make him a superhero.

Meanwhile, an evil supervillain named ‘'Bronze’' (Kevin Connolly) is wreaking havoc throughout the city, robbing banks and terrorizing citizens. As the rest of the Marshalls try to stop Bronze, Scott’s device accidentally ends up giving him temporary powers. With his newfound abilities, Scott tries to help his family take down Bronze, but he quickly realizes that being a superhero is more challenging than he thought.

As the Marshalls fight Bronze, the family quickly becomes divided on how they want to deal with Scott’s newfound powers. While his father, Steel Condor (Robert Townsend), is proud of Scott’s powers, his mother, Jeanette (Alex Datcher), is hesitant to let him continue using them, fearing for his safety. Meanwhile, Scott becomes increasingly arrogant and reckless as he starts embracing his superhero identity.

The movie is a classic Disney Channel original, with humor and action that both kids and adults can enjoy. It is directed by Robert Townsend, who also stars as the patriarch of the Marshall family, Steel Condor. The cast is diverse and includes a blend of established actors and newcomers. The character development of Scott is the central focus of the movie, as he struggles to find his place in a family of superheroes and decides what kind of person he wants to become.

The movie’s message is one of self-discovery and the importance of family. Scott learns that being a superhero isn’t just about having powers or stopping bad guys – it’s about using your abilities to help others and doing what’s right. The Marshalls showcase the importance of family and support, even when disagreements arise.

One of the standout qualities of Up, Up and Away is its expert use of special effects. The superhero costumes and powers are visually impressive, especially for a made-for-TV movie. The movie also features a fun and catchy soundtrack, including original songs written by artists like Lil' Zane and T-Squad.

Overall, Up, Up and Away is a lighthearted and entertaining movie that showcases the importance of family, individuality, and self-discovery. Its positive message and relatable characters make it a classic Disney Channel original that is still enjoyable to watch today.
