The Palau Nacional in Barcelona, Spain
All is calm now on the massive tiered waterfall stepping down from the crest of Montjuïc Hill in the heart of
Barcelona. When the valves open, curtains of falling water mark an entranceway to the Palau Nacional, built for the
1929 Barcelona International Exposition. The 540,000-square-foot building now houses an enormous collection of
Catalan artworks, historic archives, and a preservation and restoration center. The architect Carles Buïgas designed the dramatic waterfall fountain, as well as an illuminated circular fountain further below: The
Magic Fountain is renowned for its
spectacular light and music shows.
