Herbie Rides Again is a comedic film about a Volkswagen Bug with a mind of its own. The car is independent and has human qualities and is always ready to help its human owners. In this sequel to the Love Bug, Herbie has to help save his owner’s grandmother’s home from evil developers who want to tear it down and build a strip mall. The developer and his sneak team of lawyers have done all they can to try and get the grandmother’s home but Herbie refuses to let them win. He leads them on chase after chase throughout San Francisco. Since he is car, the developer and his cronies have no idea who is coming after them, and Herbie is able to trick them into making fools of themselves. The developer has no shortage of nasty tricks to play on the grandmother. He fools her into putting her house into foreclosure. He has window washers spray water into the home in an attempt to ruin it. It’s only Herbie’s quick wits and driving that save the day.

In spite of all this, he takes a vacation in Reno; he is convinced he can use a metal detector to find buried treasure and realize his dream of starting a rabbit farm. Coincidentally, the bank robbers make their getaway to Reno and check into the same dude ranch as Jack. In fact, they bury a suitcase full of the loot and who should find it but hapless Jack himself. This is the just beginning of Jack's troubles, as he finds himself at odds with a deputy sheriff, a roughneck sailor and a gun moll who tries (for complicated reasons) to convince the police she is Mrs. Carroll. Worst of all, Jack's wife arrives and wants a divorce. Before this mess is cleared up, Jack will risk life and limb on a runaway stagecoach.
