Directed by Kirsten Sheridan, August Rush is a 2007 drama film that revolves around a musical prodigy named Evan Taylor. Evan runs away to New York City and tries to figure out who he is. While the boy is having this journey, his biological mother is searching for him. At the same time, his biological father is searching for her. The story begins in 1995. Lyla Novacek, a cello player, meets Louis Connelly, the singer for a rock band. The pair meet during a party, and later sleep together on a rooftop. The day after, Lyla returns to her father as they prepare to head back to their home in Chicago. Lyla discovers that she is pregnant shortly before she has to return home. After an argument with her dad about the baby and her career, Lyla runs into a street and gets hit by a car. Because of the accident, she prematurely gave birth. While she was still unconscious, Lyla's father forged her signature and gave his grandson up for adoption. He later tells her the baby died. Eleven years after the accident, Evan is living in an orphanage. Evan starts to believe that he will be reunited with his parents, which gets him bullied by the other kids. After meeting a social worker, Evan runs away to New York City, hoping to find his family. After losing his social worker's business card, the boy wanders the city until he finds a young musician named Arthur. After following Arthur to his home, an abandoned theater, Evan meets Maxwell "Wizard" Wallace. Maxwell is a musician who employs children as street performers after teaching them music. After Evan shows promise on the guitar, Maxwell gives him the stage name August Rush and tries to promote him for profit. After escaping raids from the police trying to find him, Evan meets a girl who shows him written music. Evan eventually gets spotted by Julliard staff, and is invited to be a student. Evan's music eventually forms into a rhapsody, and a concert is held for him. Evan eventually decides to leave Maxwell for good after he forbids him from attending his own concert. He follows the sound of a cello to get to the concert. While Evan is conducting his rhapsody, his parents have reunited. The movie ends when Evan turns around and smiles at them, realizing that they are his parents.
