The perfect game is an American film centered on the sport of baseball. It depicts a group of Mexican children who dream of playing baseball in the Major Leagues in the United States, and end up competing in the Little League World Series. They meet and are coached by a man who was laid off from his custodial job with the St. Louis Cardinals. The movie is based on true events of the 1957 Little League World Series and features the first non-American team to ever win a Little League World Series title. The children are coached by the former janitor who claims that he used to coach the renowned St. Louis Cardinals and takes the children under his wing. When they arrive in the United States they are met with animosity and racism, and have a laundry list of issues to deal with. It is a story of underdogs rising to the challenge, in a situation where no one had given them a fighting chance. Despite being heavy underdogs, they defeat team after team and end up winning the title. As the Monterey Mexico based little league team arrives in America, they start winning over fans as they continue to win and are propelled forwards in the tournament. This is an inspirational story that shows that anything can be accomplished, and paints a picture that perceived barriers can be broken down. The film was mainly shot in the city of Monterey Mexico, where the children were from in real life and was met with mixed reviews from critics. If appears to be a false tale of underdogs rising from the ashes to accomplish a task that was seemingly impossible. However, the film is based on real life events and depicts the inspirational story of a group of under privileged children who rise to the challenge, and get the audience rooting for them in the process.
