Sir William "Bill" Rutland (Cary Grant) arrives in Tokyo, Japan a couple of days early before the Olympic Games of 1964. With no hotel rooms available anywhere, Bill pulls a notice card from the British Embassy's bulletin board, and then he talks his way into subletting a room in Christine Easton's (Samantha Eggar's) apartment. Soon, Bill encounters Steve Davis (Jim Hutton), an architecture student and an Olympic athlete, (who always avoids any identification of his event) who also has no room for the night, and so he sublets part of her apartment to Davis. Bill next tries to play matchmaker to the younger pair.

Regina Lampert (a stunning Audrey Hepburn) is in the chicest Givemchy has in gorgeous Megève, has decided to divorce her husband, Charles, because of all hissecrets and lies. Before she can, Charles is found dead - pushed off a train. When Regina returns to Paris, she's found her apartment empty, the closets bare, and a French detective,Who tells her Charles supposedly left with $250,000 on his way to South America. A note left for her to come to the US Embassy whew she meets Hamilton Bartholemew (Walter Matthau) tells her Charles stole the money from the government, and they want it back. Soon, 3 men show up, threatening her for the return of 'their' money. Terrified, because Regina knows nothing of any of this, nor where the money is, and very soon, it's made clear to her; give them the money,? Or else. Dashing Peter Joshua (or is it ..?) Is there to help Regina, in director Stanley Donen's windup souflé of a film, hailed as the 'best Hitchcock film he never made'. One part glamour, one part Hepburn, Grant (asks Matthau, Coburn, Kennedy, and many more), whipped stylishly together Regina Lambert (stunning Audrey Hepburn) returns to Paris from a ski holiday to find her husband has been murdered. She is told by CIA agent Hamilton Bartholemew that Charles Lambert was one of 5 men who stole $250,000 in gold from the U.S. government during World War II, and the government wants it back. The money was not found amongst his possessions, and Regina can shed no light on its whereabouts. She's soon visited by Peter Joshua (Cary Grant) whom she had met briefly whilst on holiday. When her husband's former partners (in crime), who were double-crossed by Charles, start terrorising her for the money, Peter offers to help find it. Thus begins an elaborate charade in which nothing - and no one is who or what it seems to be. Director Stanley Donen made one of the best loved films with Charade, and after watching it, you'll agree
