The show centered on a Miami Beach detective agency set on a houseboat and featured Troy Donahue as Sandy Winfield II; Van Williams as Kenny Madison (a character recycled from Bourbon Street Beat); and Lee Patterson as Dave Thorne. Diane McBain co-starred as socialite Daphne Dutton, whose yacht was berthed next to their houseboat. Spanish actress Margarita Sierra also had a supporting role as Cha Cha O'Brien, an entertainer who worked at the Boom Boom Room, a popular Miami Beach hangout at the Fontainebleau Hotel, directly across the street from Surfside 6.

Marshal Rocky Lane learns of a plan to obstruct the promotion of natural gas in his town. Bud Galloway, ranch boss for Jeff Chadwick who has just gained his release from prison, is the ringleader of the gang fighting the gas company, headed by Joanne Collier. Galloway tampers the gas line and kills an old man, and Chadwick is blamed. Galloway, knowing that Lane suspects him, hires Dutch Clyburn to kill both Lane and Chadwick. Lane learns that Galloway framed Chadwick for the murder of Joanne's father. Galloway gets his in an explosion, Joanne and Steve Edrington look like they are going to team up, and Rocky and "Black Jack" ride out of town. Evidently heading for El Paso for "El Paso Stampede", as this was the next-to-last film in the series for Allan 'Rocky" Lane and His Stallion "Black Jack." Lane would go on to become the voice of TV's "Mr. Ed", while "Black Jack" retired to a pasture.

Dutch, never leaving Anne's side, is promised Joe's money and then demands that Knobby bets it on Joe to lose the fight.Joe and Knobby agree in order to save Anne's life, but Knobby doesn't bet the money against Joe. The latter purposely takes a beating for a few rounds and maneuvers so that his opponent knocks him into the lap of Dutch, sitting at ringside with a gun on Anne.

Rescued by Sharon Lynch (Cathy Downs, daughter of an honest rancher, Steve gives her father, Pete Lynch (Stanley Andrews) the money to buy some short-grass acreage and becomes his partner, but is forced to leave the country after killing a neighboring rancher's brother, also in self defense. Five years later, he returns to the territory and finds Sharon and the other honest people being victimized by the rancher, who has vowed to get revenge on Steve.

The Wachupi River, known as Massacre River for the many bloody battles between Indians and settlers, is agreed upon as boundary. No settlers are allowed to cross this river into Indian territory. The Indians promise to stick to their side of the river. However, Chief Yellowstone warns Colonel Reid that some of his braves who wish to wage war might be hard to control and they could attack wagon trains. Colonel Reid's son, Junior Lieutenant Randy Reid is serving under his father. Two of his best friends, Lieutenants Phil Acton and Larry Knight are also attached to the cavalry unit serving at the isolated outpost. The two junior officers compete for the affections of Kitty Reid. Kitty Reid is Lieutenant Randy Reid's sister and Colonel James Reid's daughter. Although Kitty is engaged to Phil Acton she realizes that she's actually in love with Larry Knight. At a party given before her departure for St. Louis she sets things straight. Disappointed by the news, Phil wishes good fortune to Larry and Kitty. With the arrival of the stagecoach in town, newcomer Laura Jordan reveals that she's the new part-owner of the Blue Star Hotel and Gambling House. The other owner, Burke Kimber, tries to buy Laura out so that he could be sole owner but Laura refuses the offer. Through a twist of fate, both Lieutenants, Larry Knight and Phil Acton, get acquainted with pretty saloon owner Laura to Kitty's dismay. When Kitty's new beau Larry starts showing a romantic interest in worldly Laura, Kitty's protective brother, Randy Reid, looses his cool and decides to face Larry to defend his sister's honor. Things get more complicated when Laura's business partner, Burke Kimber, forcibly tries to push Laura into signing her share of the business over to him. This forces Larry to intervene in Laura's behalf with dramatic consequences.
