The only part of Sam's life that he is not happy about is his job as a lowly cog in the art department of the advertising firm of Burke & Hare. Sam's professional life takes a major turn when he is made executive of the Nurdlinger Dairy account. Simon Nurdlinger is a wholesome family man who wants a wholesome family man with wholesome family ideals heading his account, Sam the only one in Burke & Hare that fits the bill. Sam's home life also takes a major turn when Min's college friend, Janet Lagerlof, moves in next door. Janet stands to inherit $15 million from her grandfather's estate, but the will has a clause that she must be happily married to inherit the money. Janet is technically divorced from Howard Ebbets, and states that getting back with Howard is not worth $15 million. But when Jack Bailey and Irene Krump - two of Janet's relatives who would like to find any excuse to contest the will - come by for an unexpected visit, Janet impetuously introduces Sam as her husband, Howard. Things get more complicated for Sam when he is later forced to introduce Janet as Mrs. Bissel to both Burke and Nurdlinger. Sam and by association Min go along with the ruse, and for their troubles Janet offers to give them $1 million of her inheritance. After that, further complications occur: Janet notices a private investigator snooping around the neighborhood, the P.I. hired by Janet's relatives; Howard, Janet's ex-husband comes back wanting to reconcile with her; and without Sam's knowledge, the Nurdlinger creative includes billboards featuring a wholesome couple espousing the goodness of Nurdlinger milk, that wholesome couple being Sam and Janet as Mr. & Mrs. Sam Bissel. They just have to continue dealing with these complications until the legal hearing. But Min may just have had enough of this plan before they get the money.

The Carpetbaggers is a film starring George Perpard, Elizabeth Ashley, Alan Ladd and Carol Baker, which is loosely based on some of the events in the life of real-life millionaire Howard Hughes. The film is about Jonas Cord, Jr. (Perpard), who has been criticized and brow beaten by his father throughout his life. The most recent issue between the father and son was the marriage of the senior Cord to Jonas’ girl, Rena (Baker). The film begins with Jonas flying over his father’s chemical plant with a newly acquired open-cockpit plane and being criticized by his father for his lack of responsible behavior. During the ensuing argument, the elder Cord suffers a stroke and dies. Jonas shows no emotion and immediately has the will read and quickly makes the moves to settle the estate so that he has sole ownership of all property. Once the decisions are made, Jonas returns home to tell his stepmother of his father’s death and to learn why she chose his father over him when they were in love. Jonas begins expanding his businesses and soon meets Monica Winthrop (Ashley), whom he marries. Jonas continues traveling around the country, overseeing his various businesses, and he takes Monica with him until she informs him that she would like for them to settle into a home of their own and possibly have a child. Jonas heatedly informs her that he not only does not want to settle in one place, but he does not want to have any children, ever. Jonas discovers that his oldest and most loyal companion, Nevada Smith (Ladd) is in trouble with a recent motion picture he invested in. Jonas offers his help, casting Rena in the film in order to save Nevada's investment. However, when Rena dies from driving drunk, Jonas soon realizes his mistake and seeks out Monica, who gave birth to their child, and offers to change.

Stone - Erica - a night school journalism instructor at a local college, get into a philosophical war of words. He believes that newspaper journalism is a trade that can only be learned through on the job training. Additionally, he believes that people who teach journalism probably have not spent a day in their life working at a newspaper, E.R. Stone included. He also has disdain for any of his staff who have studied journalism at school, he himself not even having ever graduated from high school. As such, he tersely declines her invitation to provide a guest lecture to her class. Their war ratchets up a level when she reads his letter to her class, she unaware that he is sitting in her class at the time, he who has come to abide her request as directed by his managing editor. Because of her diatribe against him, he decides to enroll in her class incognito as James Gallagher to show her up. Their war softens, at least from Jim's side, as he can't help but be attracted to her as a person. And Erica, not knowing his true identity, is enthralled with her new pupil, who is the most naturally gifted writer she has ever had in any of her classes. As Jim and Erica get closer personally and professionally, not only is his true identity a major obstacle in their relationship if she ever discovers it, but seemingly so is Dr. Hugo Pine, a Renaissance man of a psychology professor at the college who Jim assumes is her suitor. Jim ultimately may be able to use Hugo's profession and knowledge of Erica for his own benefit in getting closer to her. You Can't Take It With You is based on the play of the same name by George S. Kaufmann and Moss Hart. It was directed by Frank Capra and won two Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director.
